SYNOPSIS: In Peking earlier this month Chinese Premier Chou En-Lai welcomed a Somali delegation led by Mr. Omar Arteh Ghalib before a session of "friendly" talks.
The delegation from the Somali Republic was on an official visit to China to discuss trade and other matters of mutua interest. Their leader, Mr. Ghalib, is Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs.
The Somali delegation had talks with Chinese Departmental officials.....among them China's Acting Minister of Foreign Affairs Chi Peng-fei.
Mr. Ghalib has publicly hailed China's achievements in recent years, and has attributed its successes to the "wise and able" leadership of Chairman Mao Tse-Tung. He told his hosts at the talks that China was looked on as an example and inspiration to freedom-loving peoples in Africa and the rest of the world where there has been suffering from the oppression and tyranny of Imperialists. There is historical evidence that Chinese explorers once reached the north-easternmost tip of Africa where the Somali Republic is located. Mr. Ghalib welcomed the continued friendly dialogue.
