Background: Senegalese Prime Minister M. Abdou Diouf arrived in Abidjan, Ivory Coast, on Friday (29 June) and was greeted by the Minister of State, M. Auguste Denise, and six other Government Ministers.
He was accompanied by Finance Minister Mme. Babacar Ba and Minister of Transport M. Diaraf Diouf.
In a press statement, M. Abdou said that he had come to strengthen ties between the two countries and that they should have consultations when??? anything, however small, shook these ties.
M. Diouf was also carrying a personal message from Senegalese President Leupold Senghor to President Felix Houphouet-Boigny, whom he saw the next day. Although the exact content of the message is not known, observers believe that such a high-ranking delegation could only here come to discuss the growing crisis in the multinational company ??? Africa'. The Director General, M. Cheikh Fall, has recently been dismissed, and the question of his succession has not been solved.
Air Africa was formed as an airline in 1961 and comprises 11 West African countries.
