Background: The mass demonstration in Cairo by students which began on Monday(January 24) and led to violent clashes with police -- shown in this film -- began at the end of a six-day occupation of the Cairo University campus. The occupation was held in protest at the Government's failure to declare war against Israel, and the demonstrations began when students claimed that 1,600 of their companions had been detained by police.

They marched into the centre of Cairo, where police finally succeeded in breaking up the procession after several bloody and violent clashes in which several people on both sides were injured. At one stage students succeeded in forcing riot police to retreat under a hail of stones.
