Background: The Catholic Cinema Organisation (OCIC) and the International Catholic Organisation for Radio and Television (UNDA) concluded their general assembly in Togo at the weekend (9/10 August). The meeting prepared the ground for the world congress of UNDA and OCIC to be held in the Philippines in November.

SYNOPSIS: The Assembly was opened by the Togolese Interior Minister Kpotivi Tevi-Djidjogbe Lacle who arrived with Catholic Archbishop of Lome Monseigneur Dosseh.

Delegates from France, Belgium and ten African nations attended the sessions. The Assistant Secretary-General of UNDA, Mr. Dessaucy, an the President of Togo-UNDA presided over the sessions.

OCIC and UNDA are two of the most important religious organisations concerned with the media throughout the world. OCIC was founded in 1928 to ensure a Christian presence in the cinema world. UNDA was founded in the same year to pursue the same function in the electronic media.

The two organisations co-operate closely with the international Catholic press organisation, U.C.I.P., and the Catholic Media Council. This congress was primarily concerned with French-speaking Africa. In their recommendations the two assemblies put the emphasis on the co-operation between producer and directors and the Catholic organisations, the organisation of seminaries within the new world order of news information and the establishment of a range of video-cassettes in French-speaking Africa.
