Background: Turkish troops serving on the North-South Korean border were inspected recently by the Prime Minister of their country when he made a short visit to Korea starting 26th. April.
On the third day of his visit the Turkish Premier, Andre Menderes, went to the headquarters of the 8th Brigade of the Turkish Army at Yangeju. At the camp he was met by the commander of the 8th, Brigadier General Rasim Atakan, General Decker, commander of the United Nations troops, and Mr. Dowling, American Ambassador to Korea.
Hundred of Korean children lined the road leading to the camp and waved Turkish and Republic of Korea flags. Later, after a military parade and march-past of Turkish troops, two children from the Ankara Orphanage--------which is supported by funds from the 8th Brigade---------came forward to offer flowers and garlands to Premier Menderes and also to pose for the Press photographers with him.
