Background: A four-week seminar on acupuncture for United States doctors is being held in Taipei during July.
Acupuncture is an ancient Chinese art of pain-killing and healing by inserting fine needles into certain nerve points in the body. Its use is gaining acceptance in the West.
Sponsored by the Chinese Acupuncture Science Research Foundation, the seminar features lectures, discussions and clinical observation and practice.
More than twenty Chinese acupuncturists and medical doctors are passing on their skills to ten United States medical workers, most of them from California.
The research foundation, founded in November 1972, aims to join the efforts of both traditional Chinese and Western-trained medical personnel to study acupuncture, and to remove the mystery that often surrounds it.
