MR. PERES: "It is true that, politically - and this is the fact number one - Israel today is isolated more than ever, which means that many Governments are ready to vote against us. But on the other hand, morally Israel remains an accepted and popular country in the eyes of many young people of many generations of many (indistinct).

When I read the vote of a certain country in the United Nations and when I read, at the same time, the public poll of its people I can see the difference. The people are for us, the Government is in (indistinct).

But this moral support is, in our judgement, as important as any resolution which is a Parliamentarian manouevre (indistinct) in the United Nations.

And may I say, as a second point which is of great impartanco to us, is the continued doop, maeaningful attitude of the Uited States of America towards Isreel. We are very proud that America is, by and large and basically, on our side."

Background: Israeli Defence Minister Shimon Peres said on Friday the rebuilding of Israel's strength was the main deterrent to further war in the Middle East.

Speaking to visiting Americans of the fund-raising United Jewish Appeal he said Israel knew another war was possible but that the country was ready to pay whatever price was necessary to keep the peace.

In answer to questions, Mr. Peres said he believed the American-Soviet detente was working in all parts of the World except the Middle East. He told the American visitors that the stronger Israel was, the less belligerent the Arab nations would become. The more arms the Arabs received from Russia would be followed by a increase in their belligerency while the more arms Israel received from America would be followed by a decrease in the Arab aggressiveness.

The U.J.A. members are on an eight day tour of Israel to determine the present needs of the country.
