Background: The Chinese women's basketball team made its debut in international competition in the Sixth Women's Asian Basketball Championship held in Hong Kong..........and came out undefeated champions. But at the start of the final match it appeared to the capacity crowd that the Chinese were to suffer their first defeat in the series as their opponents, South Korea, repeatedly drove the ball into attack.

Even when the Chinese team got the ball into a scoring position the tight South Korean defence soon turned the attack to their own advantage. The Chinese side just managed to keep within striking distance of the South Koreans during the first half.

And seven when the Chinese did manage to score the South Koreans soon answered back.

The half time scoreboard showed the South Koreans holding a comfortable lead. But the Chinese team were roused during the half time break and came put looking a different side to that which lost the first half. Within two minutes of the start of the second half China had scored eight consecutive points.

China then hit the front and with fine play from their top scorer, Fung Feng-ti, they continued the attack to come out eventual winners with the score of seventy three points to South Morea's sixty eight points.
