Background: Blind table tennis players from Singapore and Malaysia met in Kuala Lumpur last weekend (30 September - 1 October) to compete in a tournament organised by the Malaysian Welfare Ministry.

The blind play table tennis by hitting the ball under the net and listening to its movement acrose the table. Points are ???ained from the shots missed by opposing players.

The Singapore players made a clean sweep of the contest, winning all the events.

Organisers hope the blind table tennis tournament will become an annual event.

Each table has a shelf around the edge to catch balls that slip by the player's bat.

The Kuala Lumpur match was the first time that the two teams had met and Singapore swept the board, winning the man's and women's singles and doubles and the mixed doubles.

Organisers hope the match between Singapore and Malaysia will become an annual event and plans are being made to hold table tennis tourneys for the blind in other Asian countries.
