Pathe News "Special" item.

Announcer begins: "Pathe takes you back to Sunday September the 29th 1946." Guild Hall balcony, Cambridge. A group of dignitaries including the Mayor, Councillor Lady Bragg (sp?), Aldermen and Burgesses (?) stand on the balcony in ceremonial robes. The Mayor confers upon the Cambridgeshire County Regiment the freedom of the borough.

Panning shot of the large crowd gathered to witness the ceremony. The Mayor makes a speech thanking the Regiment for their efforts during the Second World War. Camera pans across the troops gathered, L/Ss from high angle and closer shots. M/S of the group on the balcony.

There is a round of applause after the Mayor finishes her speech. Major General Lucock (? check spelling) replies on behalf of "Cambridgeshires past and present." M/S and C/U of veterans of the Cambridgeshire County Regiment who had fought in the First World War.

The Major speaks of his pleasure that the honour conferred on his regiment is also shared by members of the Royal Artillery, Royal Engineers, Royal Corps of Signals and the Royal Army Medical Corps raised and maintained in the County of Cambridgeshire and the Isle of Ely.

The speeches over, the regiment marches past the dignitaries. Panning shot shows the watching crowds as the veterans also march past. M/S of crowd. C/Us of the Major General and Lady Bragg.
