"We are met here today to review in frank and intimate talks the whole picture of the middle east as it presents itself to the countries whose delegates are assembled here in the framework of the Baghdad Pact meeting. Our purpose is to re-affirm the intentions expressed in that instrument as a means for collective security. We intend to maintain the aims of our alliance and consider how best to do this in the light of the present situation. While we are necessarily faced with many difficulties, we do not, I am sure, mean to face them save with courage and together. I am happy to welcome on behalf of the Government of the United Kingdom all our friends assembled here to London and to this meeting. Thank You". Mr Macmillan sits down. CU Mr. Dulles.
