• Short Summary

Nice story showing an ENSA company entertaining soldiers in the desert.

  • Description

    Titles read: "BETWEEN ROUNDS".

    Libya, North Africa.

Several shots show a small, makeshift theatre being put together in the middle of the desert. Around the back of the stage we see two pretty girls, Marilyn and Roma (a platinum blonde), combing their hair and putting on their make-up. They are part of an ENSA company here to entertain the troops.

Cut to an army truck pulling up in the desert and numerous soldiers carrying rifles getting off. Commentator explains the theatre is not far from enemy lines. More soldiers arrive.

Several shots during the show, as we see the troops sitting in the sun around the theatre and the girls in evening dresses. Roma does a number in dungarees. Alas, we don't get to hear them, but we are assured that the tunes of 'The Desert Song' and 'Sand In My Shoes' are not on the programme. A few views of the audience seen from behind the performers. Nice C/Us of soldiers laughing and enjoying the show.

The performers bow at the end of the show and the soldiers move off.

Cataloguer's note: ENSA stands for Entertainments National Service Association. Some people who remember it say it stands for Every Night Something Awful.
