"Mr Mayor, ladies and gentlemen. I have come here today from Germany, from Berlin, to accept this high honour which you have conferred on me, and I would like to say that it is a very great pleasure for me to come here... The war in Europe is now happily over and war in the Pacific will be pressed relentlessly to its absolutely certain conclusion... No tyrant could afford to disregard a strong British Empire that stands for freedom and justice... Firstly, we must build our post-war civilisation with a good levening of spiritual matter, secondly, if we want peace we must understand war, and thirdly, we must maintain a strong and united British Empire". People applaud.
