    Major Greek population on British ruled Cyprus wants to unify with Greece. Britain agrees to discuss independence of the island but rejects its unification. The main reason - Cyprus is a vital NATO base. GV. Pan, island of Cyprus. SV. Four engine plane of the Royal Air Force transport command taxiing in at the aerodrome at Nicosia. SV. Chief of the Imperial General Staff, Field Marshal Sir John Harding stepping down from plane and being greeted by Mr Fletcher Cooke. He is to take up his new appointment as Governor General of Cyprus. SCU. Pan, Sir John Harding walks away from plane. GV. Greek church. SV. Archbishop Makarios with another Orthodox priest. He is demanding unification of Cyprus with Greece. Greek population of the island (majority, four-fifths) agrees with him. SV. Turkish flag flying from tower. CU. Islamic Mufti of Cyprus, Dana Effendi. He is against unification of the island with Greece. GV. Village Church of Trahoni where Archbishop Makarios takes the service - the letters E.O.K.A. can be seen painted on the walls of the church - and other slogans demanding unification. E.O.K.A. is the pro-Greek terrorist organisation - claims voiceover. LV. Crowds outside Church waiting for the Archbishop to come out - more slogans can be seen on the walls. CU. Archbishop Makarios coming out of church - he walks past large painted letters on wall E.O.K.A. LV. Pan, the Archbishop walking through the village with large crowd following, he is accompanied by other priests. SV. Pan, the Archbishop walking to the house of priests (more slogans on the wall). The crowd following him are now applauding him. SV. Sir John Harding outside Government House inspecting the first Battalion South Staffordshire Regiment - he walks towards the camera, stops and talks to a soldier. GV. Government House. SV. Interior, looking down the centre of the table - Sir John Harding standing at the end of table being sworn in and proclaimed Governor and Commander-in-Chief. He stands as Proclamation is read, & SCU.
