Eisenhower picks up the Hubbard Medal and presents it to Sir Vivian Fuchs as leader of the British Trans-Antarctic Expeditions Journey of more than 2,000 miles across the South Pole. Eisenhower picks up another medal and presents it to Admiral Burke. He picks up another medal and hands Admiral Burke the second medal who receives it on behalf of Admiral George J Dufek who took command of the Navy's Antarctic activities after the death of Admiral Richard E Byrd in March 1957.
