    Bochum Island, Germany.

    A siren sounds and a German lifeboat crew climb aboard their boat in dock. They pull on their waterproofs and lifejackets and set off. The lifeboat crew demonstrate a rocket device which fires a rope to a ship in distress. VS of lifeboat on choppy seas. VS as they throw ropes to sinking fishing ship.

    The film shows the lifeboat "August Nebelthau".this boat was situated from 1932-1936 on our island Borkum.
    Built in1929 from the Lürssen shipyard in Bremen- Vegesack ( Germany).
    From 1936-1942 in Friederichskoog (mouth of river Elbe) Destroyeded by a mine on the 23. may 1942.
    The "Vormann" (Kapitän) Hans Hartmann was killed.
    The film shows the so called "Alten Hafen" ( harbor for the ferry to Emden) and the crew .
    Vormann: Hans Lüken, Motormann :Berend Veen, Folkert Meeuw,Heinrich Elderts, Heinrich Bekaan,Evert Wybrands.
    On the 5. of Dec. 1934 the Logger (trawler) "Luise Henriette" grounded on the Borkum Riff.
    The ship became a total loss.( See: www. Heimatverein-Borkum.de) and the book " Untergang vor Borkum". Die Geschichte der Seenotrettung im deutsch-niederländischen Seegebiet Band I 1860-1924, Band II 1924-1945.
    The cew of 15 was saved.
