Having joined Glasgow fire service in October after 6years army service I was stationed at the North fire stn in ST Georges Rd. On that particular night I was one of the crew on our 3rd engine a Bedford RL green goddess My engine was called about 30 mins after our 2 main engines had left the stn We arrived to find the whole building on fire I remember it was very cold .After being detailed to find a new hydrant and run out hoses I found myself on a branch on ground level trying to penetrate into the building.Try as we might it was immposible too much heat and smoke After what seemed like hours (really only about 2) the Chief Fire Officer came round and asked how long we had been there I said since about 6 oclock, he then got us relived and told us to go and get a cup of tea from the sally army tea waggon.I know that as we walked away I had steam coming from the front of my jacket and icicles hanging from the back So ended my first fire experience Fire man Ron Bruce
