    LS D.E. Griffiths speaking: (natural sound.) "My Lords, fellow barkers, ladies and gentlemen, may I first of all express our deep appreciation for the presence of all of you tonight. The results of your presence has raised something like $2,000 for sick and needy children. CU I am sure you will appreciate ladies and gentlemen that in the formative stages of a thing of this kind there are many problems and many headaches involved. The original crew the original men who formed Variety, selected as their first Chief Barker a man well known in the film world, distinguished film man in America and he undertook the responsibility of being the first chief Barker, I am sure you will agree with me that his problems and his headaches must have been considerate but the first year he appointed with him a crew and they did a magnificent job of work ..... to our first Chief Barker a present in thankfulness to him for the hard work that he did in creating the tent and causing Variety in London, together with his colleagues to be the event, the occasion and the possibilities that the means to us all for the future."
