Promotional film made for Oxo - lots of cattle and shots of Fray Bentos corned beef.
Colour, mute. 1966 ?
Documentary made for Oxo. Sound missing. See also 199.08. Some might be shot in Fray Bentos (for it is a real place!)
Mostly shots of gauchos in South America - Argentina? Cattle farm - cows being injected. Various shots of men at work on the cattle farm. Nice scenic shots of horses, sunsets, workers dancing at sunset in the open air. It all looks very romantic and lovely.
Meet is cooked over an open fire - man slices pieces of meat off. White workers watch the dancers. Workers ride around the farm on horseback. Cows are seen wandering in a field, the gauchos round them up.
Cows are herded across country, through a river, to another ranch. One cow is seen lying on the ground. A vet looks at its teeth. Calves are herded.
Our white farmer is seen at a scenic waterfall. He takes a photograph - presumably his day off. He goes to visit a native tribe. We see them engaged in traditional crafts and dancing. Various shots of their traditional dance. Men at work on the roof of a building - thatching. Men survey their land - cows in the distance.
Footage of the Oxo factory (in Buenos Aires?). Manufacturing processes. Large boxes of Oxo Beef Extract and Fray Bentos Corned Beef are seen. Exterior of factory. Cargo ship being loaded (Ledbury?). L/S of harbour. Large ship moves past camera. Various shots of boats. Boxes of Oxo being unloaded. Nice shots of Oxo cubes coming down a conveyor belt and being packed in boxes. Lovely shot of woman looking in shop window piled high with Fray Bentos product. Pack shots. Agricultural show - some prize bulls being exhibited. C/U of rosettes which read: "Suffolk Agricultural Champion." Men judge beautiful bull contest. Good C/Us of bulls and their proud owners including the first prize winner having a rosette attached to his head. Scenic views of rivers end the film.
Note: presumably the cows we see in the early part of the film will end up as Oxo cubes (!)
