    Good shots of factory workers; machines. Opens w/ scenes in foundry. White hot molten steel pouring into vat; then from there into something else; while workers poke long sticks into it. Dark shot; only glowing liquid is visible. Next; great tracking shot moving over factory floor; looking down at workers engaged in various tasks; parts of large motors stacked all over; looks busy but rather haphazard.

    MS worker walking on big rotating cylinder as management types in suits watch. CU 2 young women workers assemble electric rotors; putting coils on & tapping w/ small hammer. Another woman works at machine. Same woman takes narrow pieces of pipe as they come out of machine. Men moving heavy pipes: 1 brings a cart of pipes standing upright. 2 men lift pipe from cart; roll it on end to 3rd man; who lowers pipe into opening in floor; he wears a protective tough apron down to his knees; w/ a groove in it for pipe to slide down. CU woman working at machine. Team of men pull out long white-hot pipes or rods which have just been cast.

    Next; pan down long room; teenage boys welding pipes together. CU welder working. A huge; powerful magnet is lowered on chains onto a pile of scraps of metal; when raised many pieces stick to magnet. Pan on magnet moving left; then suddenly dropping all the scraps.

    Manufacturing; energy; skilled labour; piecework; manual dexterity; child labour.
