    The Cresswell Pit Disaster is mentioned. The causes of underground fires were investigated by a working party. Frictional heating was found to be the cause of this particular fire. Geigy (?) have discovered that constructing a "non-flam" belt for the pulley system used in underground mining was essential. We see various stages in making the special fire resistant compound in a laboratory (PVC?). Various shots of work in the laboratory to construct the special rubberised compound. We are shown the fire resistant qualities of PVC compared to rubber.
