The 'two women' mentioned as being outside the cathedral are the King's aunts - Princess Nicholas, mother of Princess Marina, Duchess of Kent; and Princess Andrew, mother of Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh. Both women had remained in Greece throughout the German occupation and the subsequent communist attempt to take control of Athens in December 1944.
