The BBC reporter is none other than Stanley Maxted, a Canadian, who reported for the BBC throughout the war. He is best remembered for his broadcasts from Arnhem in 1944. He provides most of the voice over for the 1946 Arnhem docudrama "Theirs is the Glory". He made it out from Arnhem, hence was still reporting in 1945. Post war he went he did some acting in Hollywood.
