Excellent film showing the processes by which straw hats are made. Great to illustrate millinery trade in early 1920s.
C/U of plaited straw. C/U of man at a sewing machine stitching the plaited lengths into the crown of a hat. The brim is then stitched. A double brim is applied - C/U of a woman stitching this on. The hat is dipped in gelatine. The hat is then stretched over a block, then steamed. It is then put into two different presses. The hat is trimmed - woman sews a head band into the inside and a hat band on to the outside. She stitches a bow on the side. She presents the hat to the camera. C/U of man sitting on a park bench, smoking a pipe, reading a paper and wearing the boater.
