    Documentary on cats, showing their place in history.

    Scenes of Egypt and the Sphinx.

    A witch walking through a village and up to stocks. (Witch is ghostlike through double exposure). She has cat on her shoulders. Cats seen with characters in period costume.

    A cat is delivered to suburban house. (Wimbledon). Various scenes showing cat being fed, groomed etc. Cat is then taken to R.S.P.C.A. (Royal Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals) clinic in Putney. Cat's ears are examined by vet. Cat back at house with its lady owner in front of fire. Sequence of furniture delivered to house, the cat slips out. Low angle shots of traffic passing. R.S.P.C.A. inspector is seen looking for him and finding him in garden of empty house. R.S.P.C.A. informs owner it has been found and cat is returned to its owner.

    Ends with cat drinking saucer of milk.

    The BBFC certificate at the start of the clip carries the signature of it's President Edward Shortt. That means the clip's date range can be reduced to 1929-35.

    "Cat is then taken to R.S.P.C.A. (Royal Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals) clinic in Putney." - it's the RSPCA unit at 6 Clarendon Road, Putney. (The RSPCA are still at the same address in 2012.)
