Various shot, night shots of trains. Short sequence with man flashing a torch and lights in houses, being turned on and off, the only remaining contact between separated members of one family. MS A man signalling from roof to two children in LS. in a street on the other side of the wall. MS and CU A woman sorting mail into pigeon holes. MS Mail bags being loaded as the mail service still works. MS A mail van is checked through a barrier check point. Various shots, ashes of deceased in both parts of the city are transported from either side in caskets in special van on Wednesdays. High shot, van containing funerary remains goes through the checkpoint. Various shots of van through checkpoint. LS A woman peers from an upstairs window in building hit with bullet marks, she applied to join her children in West Berlin before the wall was erected and will be moving. CU Rear view two men survey the border from upstairs window. He points to where his mother lives in the East. They have been forbidden from waving to one another. CU A woman sobbing by an open window, her whole family lives just on the other side of the wall, but she cannot join them. MS A young boy walking alongside the wall.
