Lord Horne opens an unique memorial dedicated to ex-pupils of Mill Hill School killed during the war.

  • Description

    Mill Hill, London.

Intertitle: "Mill Hill School. The Gate of Honour. Lord Horne opens unique Memorial to the School's Fallen".

M/S of an elderly man in robes ( the headmaster ? ) reading a speech, in the background a crowd stands in front of the school, directly behind the man in a movie camera.

M/S of steps leading up to a large doorway with Romanesque columns, two Army cadets open the ornate doors - 'The Gates of Honour' - nearby two soldiers stand to attention. C/U looking through the doorway, inside we see a man in an officer's uniform ( Lord Horne ) standing in front of a cameraman operating a movie camera on a tripod ( perhaps from a rival newsreel company ?! ). The cameraman picks the tripod up and scurries away, Lord Horne turns and walks out of the door towards our camera, he is followed by two men in academic robes.

M/S, looking over the heads of a battalion of soldiers, of a procession of schoolboys filing out of the doors or 'gates'. M/S of Lord Horne laying a large wreath on the steps of the unusual monuments, several dignitaries and men in robes stand at the top of the stairs.

The "Elderly man in robes" is not the Head, but Dr H Arnold Thomas, former Chairman of the Congregational Union and Old Millhillian.
