Archive footage shows the New York fire brigade of 1893 and a gag that was old in 1895.
Many A Year Ago. Part of the FROM AD TO BBC issue.
Archive film (very scratched) from 1893 shows the fire brigade of New York rushing to the scene of a fire on horse-drawn fire engines. People stand on the street watching them go by and trams / streetcars have stopped to see the spectacle. Brief shot of a fireman leading a horse from a burning building or stable (?).
More footage from 1895 shows a man watering a garden with a hose. Two young boys stand on the hose to stop the water supply. The man looks into the tube, the boys get off the hose and the man is squirted in the face! (The old ones are the best.)
