M/S of an air ambulance taxiing on an airfield. WAAF (Women's Auxiliary Air Force) nursing orderlies unload a stretcher case from the plane and a medical officer checks the injured man. The nurses then load the patient and stretcher into a motor ambulance.
In a Tyneside town we see people queuing for blood tests to be taken by nurses sitting at the back of an ambulance. Pan across the queue of people - looks like mostly housewives and a few men. Good shots of the nurses taking a blood test from a woman's thumb. Commentator explains that "if required, the donor is asked later to attend for the giving of a small quantity of blood for the saving of life".
In Liverpool, Merseyside, we see several shots of men and women of the Liverpool Fire Service parading through the streets. The salute is taken by the Lord Mayor and Mr Hartley Shawcross, the new Regional Commissioner.
