Nylon Fair in London - Sneak Preview of 70's burst of colours and cuts. Polyester itch guaranteed!
High angle shot of stuffed leopard being held by a woman whose legs are seen. Camera tilts up to reveal the woman wearing leopard skin bra and mini sarong skirt. The girl starts walking graciously, turns around, and then walks off. Another girl wears long leopard skin coat. She walks and turns around. This is not a real leopard skin but fake fur, made of nylon and exhibited at the Nylon Fair in London.
L/S of a futuristic setting. It is a blue room with large glass balls hanging around. Balls are attached with wires to both, floor and ceiling. There are neon lights inside each ball. Camera pans across the room to find a girl seated on a large blue mattress in the left corner. She is wearing bright orange leggings and funny 'housecoat'. Another girl, wearing huge fluffy nylon dress with large colourful spots, comes and sits with her.
M/S of a (kind of) window display of 'nylons' - false legs are caught in a large spider web. A model wearing red and white top can be seen through the web. She wears matching tights.
Several shots of mannequins on a little stage modelling different nylon outfits, from evening dresses to Baby Doll pyjamas. It looks like a theatre with an audience watching the show.
Lovely sexist commentary makes the film even more interesting -"A suit now, ...ideal for the the smart young thing - and even better for the not-so-smart young thing." Great display of 50's designs and 70's fabrics.
Note: Extensive material on this story can be found in file. Some great stuff with mannequins, designer names and designs available. Cuts (rushes, out-takes) exist for this story. They are on Pathe Master tape *PM0089*. Some of the cuts are excellent. Definitely worth watching.
