  • Description

A 'Bray' Studios Production. Animation featuring Bobby Bumps.

Ostrich sits on the ground inside a fenced enclosure. Stands up to reveal a large egg. Speech bubble says "Honk". Ostrich walks off. Bobby and his dog come along and look through the fence at the egg. Bobby suggests to his pet that they "get it and hatch it." He climbs to the top of the fence and holds out something to the Ostrich who takes it and eats it. We see the round object moving down the Ostrich's neck as it swallows. When the Ostrich takes the second morsel it is offered, Bobby grabs hold of its head and hangs on to it - the round thing bobs up and down the Ostrich's throat as it struggles to get free. The dog lifts up the fence and kicks the egg under it. Ostrich breaks free and spots the dog. Its eyes follow the dog as it runs around. As the Ostrich moves its body around with its eyes, its legs get in a tangle. The dog laughs, turns its back on the Ostrich and starts digging a hole, throwing earth into the Ostrich's face as he does so.

The dog doesn't notice the Ostrich unwinding himself until it is almost too late. Dog jumps at the fence and gets stuck in it. Ostrich looks at the audience with glee and prepares itself for revenge by revolving its body around 360 degrees several times. Ostrich then grabs the dog's tail with its beak. A struggle ensues and the dog cries: "Help!" Bobby saunters up and grabs dog by the collar. Bobby walks backwards stretching the Ostrich's neck to a great length as it tries to keep hold of the dog. Ostrich lets go. Bobby flattens the dog. Dog vows: "I'll teach him to bite my tail." and runs back to the cage. Each time the dog runs into the cage the Ostrich daintily steps over the fence. When the dog runs outside the cage, the Ostrich steps back in. Ostrich runs off with dog and Bobby in hot pursuit. Ostrich suddenly stops and puts his head in the sand. Dog and Bobby look bemused. Dog asks: "What's the idea?" Bobby replies: "She's hiding, Fido. That's the way they hide."
Fido says: "I spy" then bites the Ostrich on the neck, he then runs off. Ostrich chases Fido, Bobby sits on the egg to wait. Fido runs back towards Bobby, suddenly stopping and burying his head in the sand. Ostrich cannot see him and runs off. Dog laughs. Interior of a chicken coop. Hen sits on a nest dreaming of hatching a chick. Bobby comes in, climbs on a barrel and beckons in Fido who is carrying the egg. Bobby tries to lift the hen off the nest but gets pecked.

He manages to grab the chicken and Fido plonks the egg on the nest. Hen tries to balance on the egg but it is too big so it flies off. Intertitle reads: "So there was no alternative but to build an incubator." Bobby and Fido stand by a wooden construction they have made. Bobby leaves Fido in charge. He turns up the heat then watches the thermometer rising. He looks very alarmed as it gets hotter and hotter. He jumps on top of the incubator and shakes the thermometer. He runs and finds Bobby saying: "It won't go down!" They look towards the incubator - it is on fire. Bobby folds his arms and looks annoyed. Fido digs a hole and jumps into it. Bobby walks off and Fido jumps out of the hole. Bobby picks up the egg from the charred remains of the incubator. He smells the egg then holds his nose in disgust. He throws the egg at Fido. It misses but rolls into a woodpile where it scares out a skunk. Intertitle reads: "Gee, Fido, that must have been a pretty bad egg." There is an iris in effect which leaves just a little of the preceding scene visible in an oval shape. Fido and Bobby jump through it and it closes up.

Tiny mouse in the bottom of the screen paints the cartoonists name - probably Earl Hurd.
