  1. Jane Larcombe (Hill) says

The Ring Guard in this film (as seen at 5.22) is my Grand-father George Ernest Hill (Ernie). He is playing a Coach Horn. His son and my Father can be seen on another one of your films (from 1962), also playing the same Coach Horn.

The Ring Guards would signal to the riders, with a particular horn call, when they were required by the judges to trot, canter (speed up or slow down) and so on.
