These people are my grandparents and other family members. My father who would have been 10 years old, used to tell me tales of the shifting sands. We used to visit the area and he woul show me the chimney tops just poking out from the ssnds.

I have a very clear memory of being taken on holiday to Talacre aged about 6 back in 1947, give or take a year. We travelled by coach and met up with relatives from Liverpool. As a six year old finding hundreds of .303 cartridge cases on top of many of the dunes was real treasure. I remember a house buried in the sand with only part of the roof visible only a few yards from my prime machine gun nest site.

We stayed, I think, in a converted railway carriage not far from the dunes. I don't remember too much about that other than the disgusting toilet arrangements.

It was my intention to return there this year, but unfortunately the Covid prevented that. Perhaps next year.
