School classroom. Children in aprons make pulp from shredded paper and water. C/U of girl stirring mixture in large metal bucket. C/U of pulp being stirred. Girl drops some more paper into bucket. Mixture is emptied from jam jars. Paste and size bind the pulp. Boy mixes and presses the mixture together. Girl adds size with a spoon. Balls of the mixture are moulded into head shapes on the top of sticks then put inside a bottle to dry out. C/U of girl putting details on to her puppet head. The heads are baked in a small oven. The heads are painted and hair is stuck on. Boy in an apron paints his puppet head. C/U of eyebrows being painted on. C/U of another puppet head as girl sticks on hair. Scenery and clothes are made for the puppets. Children bang nails into scenery and sew cloth. A girl plays with her finished puppet. Two other girls laugh. We see behind the scenes of the show. Curtains are pulled and the children practice their puppetry. Shots of an enthralled audience of children watching two puppets having a fight. C/Us of various children in the audience. Curtains are drawn on the show.
