    The game was played on 3 October 1953. It was both a British Home Championship fixture AND a World Cup Qualifier.

    "SV captains tossing" - the Scottish captain is George Young.

    Filling in the blanks of some of the players' names;

    "Waddell" is Willie Waddell.
    "B Smyth" is Billy Smyth.
    "N Lockhart" is Norman Lockhart.
    "Goalie Farm" is George Farm.
    "S Cox" is Sammy Cox.
    "McIlory" should read McIlroy (Jimmy McIlroy).
    "J Henderson" is John Henderson.
    "J McCabe" is Jim McCabe.
    "Charles Flemming" should read Charlie Fleming (4 instances of the surname need changing).
    "Tully" is Charlie Tully.
    "Brennan" is Frank Brennan.
    "Ronnie Simpson" is actually Billy Simpson (Ronnie Simpson being an entirely different player, who didn't play full International football until 1967).
