Wardour Films presents a British instructional Films Ltd presentation.

A glass of water is poured from a jug - a cheap aquarium. A wisp of hay is placed in the glass. A few days later, the water seen through the microscope is full of tiny creatures - amoeba like animals. We see a microscopic shot of the eye of a needle with a few of the tiny beasts swimming around in it. "Slippers" can just be seen without a microscope. Boneless creatures swim around. The creatures dart around the glass in search of food. We see how the food swallowed by one of the creatures makes dark marks in its semi transparent body. C/U of the body of the animal to show its mouth. The creatures increase their numbers by splitting into two. They separate and swim away from each other.

A trumpet-like creature sweeps in pieces of food. Bell like creatures fix themselves to the hay. The bells are eaten by a transparent creature. One type of bell have developed a spiral spring as an aid to getting out of reach of the enemy. Graphic illustration of how the bell creatures split into two to multiply. Weird graphics. New bell swims away. The fringe that was around its mouth moves down to its waist - better for swimming. It "burps" and lots of smaller bells pop out. We see this in an animation. We see the bell grow. Sometimes enormous colonies of bells congregate on one stalk. We see a large stalk of bells moving around under the microscope. Shot of the wine glass with all the little creatures swimming around inside.

Note: the animation sequence in this film is quite surreal!
