An alternative version of the statement made to the press and media by Len Hutton when Lumbago forced his retirement from first class cricket. This version mentions the illness that leads to his retirement. This is the statement only and does not include the library footage of Hutton playing, featured in the original story

    Pudsey, West Yorkshire.

LV. Cricketer Len Hutton with his wife standing in front of their house at Pudsey. Lead-in for voice. SCU. Len Hutton speaks: "After carefully considering whether I would be fit enough to play first class cricket again, I'm afraid that I have come to the decision that it would be not quite right for me to do so. You know sometimes I might get this wretched Lumbago at very short notice and I don't feel it's quite fair on the public or to myself or to the club. I do hope however to play occasional matches in first class cricket and of course a lot of friendly matches where it doesn't matter a great deal if I make nought or one Hundred."
