I've had a very enjoyable trip. You asked me what I felt about leaving Canada. Well, I can tell you that in the last six years I've had a most interesting and enjoyable time, and my family and I have come to look on Canada as a second home. But I returned to the United Kingdom before my term of office as Governor General expired, to take on further responsibilities, of national importance. I am happy to render what service I can for my country when that service is needed, but I feel it my duty to accept my responsibilities that I have been asked to assume. I will do all I can to help towards the preservation of peace which we all desire. By building up the strength of our armed forces, with those in association with other peace loving nations." Interviewer: "May we ask you sir, when you take over your new office?" Alexander: "I actually take over from the Prime Minister on March 1st, but I still have a few days ahead of me and I shall spend those days trying to get into the picture."
