Story about a United States Air Force Major who is also a lawyer and a Cambridge University student.
Alconbury and Cambridge, Cambridgeshire.
This item introduces us to Major Lionel Riave of the United States Air Force - a lawyer who also studies at Cambridge University.
Several shots at the United States Air Force base at Alconbury; a jet fighter comes to a halt on the runway and two men get out. One of the men, Major Lionel Riave who is a part-time flyer and also a wing Staff Judge Advocate (a lawyer), walks over to where his wife is waiting in a flashy convertible American car. He takes off his overalls to reveal his USAF uniform (nice!) and they drive off the base and into Cambridge. Commentator tells us the Major is continuing his studies at Cambridge University.
Outside Caius College the Major gets out of the car and puts on his gown, then goes inside. In the library we see him looking at books and making notes; he is studying for a Diploma in Comparative Law (English and American). A few scenic shots of the college building, then we see the Major in a punt on the river Cam; his wife paddles them along while he reclines, reading a book and smoking a cigar (he flicks the ash over the side of the boat). They sit at a riverside pub and have a drink; the Major drinks a pint of beer. L/S of boats on the river.
Note: there is correspondence and a small news cutting on file about the Major.
