Economic problems in Europe due to shortage of materials and manpower. Transport paralysed by adverse weather conditions. Men shovelling snow in an attempt to free a freight train in France. Other snow clearing operations are shown including the use of dynamite. People queuing for food due to transport delays. Paris: peace treaties are signed by representatives of many nations. Leon Blum - President of the French Republic - visits Britain to discuss Anglo-French economic relationship. Ernest Bevin leaves for Dunkirk to sign Anglo-French Treaty of Friendship. Russian delegates arrive at Dover. Battleship Vanguard sails towards South Africa with King George VI aboard (not seen). India: crowds of people in the streets at a festival some holding bowls above their heads as if begging for food. There is unrest in the street and a military presence. A large group of men are seen genuflecting and gifts are offered to icons. Viceroy Lord Wavell holds meetings with religious leaders including Mahatma Gandhi. Lord Mountbatten is sent to replace Lord Wavell. Lord Wavell leaves in an open top carriage drawn by horses. The British Royal Family embarks on a tour of South Africa in Cape Town. Shots of King George V and Queen Elizabeth in an open topped car waving to crowds and then meeting local dignitaries. Greece: demonstration against occupation. Shots of guerrillas in the mountains. Washington: United States Congressmen gathered for a speech by President Truman. Moscow: M. Vyshinsky welcomes Ernest Bevin, M. Bidault and Mr Marshall to discuss the problems of Germany. Shots of unrest in the street, aerial shots of war damage.
