Item showing us how to tell fortunes with playing cards.
Titles read: 'Tell your fortune, Lady? A Card Cameo'.
Pathe Studio, London.
M/S of a woman's hands shuffling a pack of cards. We then see a woman in gypsy costume sitting at a table with two other women, shuffling their cards.
Animated diagrams explain what the different suites of the cards mean in fortune telling. Spades mean trouble! In a spade-shaped frame we see two women arguing and one slapping the other round the face (not very convincing). Diamonds mean riches so in a diamond frame we see a woman in an evening dress trying on jewellery. Clubs refer to business matters; in a club-shaped frame a woman is seen at a typewriter. Hearts mean... "well, what do you think?". In a heart frame a woman is kissed by a man.
Animated sequence shows what individual cards mean, such as Jack of Hearts meaning a lover, King of Clubs meaning a business friend and so on. The numbers of the cards have meanings too - two means surprise and three means delay.
Back to the ladies at the table. One of the women says she knows all about it now and wants to tell the fortune of the gypsy. She looks at the cards and predicts a long journey and a dangerous man. By a trick of the camera a policeman appears beside the gypsy and tells her "Get your bonnet on sister, you're going on a long, long journey".
