    The Barbican Theatre, London.

Aerial view of building site at the Barbican in London; pan left over the (newly completed?) residential complex. Commentator talks of housing provided by the new centre. Model of the arts centre which is still in the planning stages.

C/U of bald-headed man with glasses (Sir Graham Rollinson?) who is a member of the Greater London Council talking about the City of London not being the right place for an arts centre. Female reporter interviews another man (referred to as 'Sir Gilbert'), sitting on the wall by the man-made lake in the middle of the complex. He talks of the money spent on 'Phase 5' - the finishing architectural feature of the complex. He thinks it's 1972 and the woman corrects him, saying it's 1971.

Artists' view of the hall where the London Symphony Orchestra will be based if the plans go ahead. C/U of conductor / composer Andre Previn talking of the Barbican becoming the permanent home of the LSO. C/U of Trevor Nunn, director of the Royal Shakespeare Company, talking about the seating in the proposed arts hall. He talks of the possibilities if the plans do not go ahead. Sir Gilbert talks of the scheme being unique in it's concept. Bald-headed man says they are not legally committed to provide the arts centre for residents and that he can't see why the centre would make flats more attractive to tenants.

Aerial view of the building site area. Sir Gilbert talks of the problems if the site is left vacant. Bald-headed man talks of finishing the present contract and the 'hole in the ground' increasing in value while they decide what to do next. Aerial view of the housing complex; pan right to building site while commentator ponders on the fact that this area might remain in a mess for years and years.
