The Duke and Duchess of York visit Hull, lay a foundation stone, and plant trees!
Full titles read: "The Duke & Duchess of York's visit to Hull."
M/S shows several clergymen, academics and dignitaries walking along a pathway. M/S of the Duchess of York (Queen Elizabeth, The Queen Mother) sitting on a raised platform beside a clergyman. M/S of an academic in a mortar board and gown making a speech on the platform; brief M/S (from a low angle) of the Duke of York (Prince Albert, King George VI) making a speech. M/S of the Duke; he seems to be laying a foundation or corner stone in the partly built building (presumably a college or school) behind the platform. A flag is hoisted amid the scaffolding - it looks like the St George Cross, but it is hard to tell. The Duke and Duchess leave the platform with the rest of the party.
Several shots follow that show the Duchess, then the Duke cutting ribbons stretched across roads, to open something - it is not clear what! A new road or housing estate? They both plant trees while a large crowd watch and clap and photographers take pictures. The royal couple get into their open-backed car and drive off.
