  • Description

    Continued - Reel 3.

Factory worker cutting fabric. Pan across large factory where women are sewing clothes at machines. C/U of a woman machining a corset and inserting metal rods or boning inside. Metal eyelets are inserted along the edge. Corsets are stretched (?) into the right proportions on a special machine. Lots of corsets stacked on a table.

C/U of decorative hem being machined on a garment. Women cutting pattern shapes from fabrics. Women sewing at machines. Good C/U and general views of the workers.

Several shots of cloth being woven at mill. Good shots of machinery and cotton reels spinning round. Stockings being made and seamed on special machinery. Fade to black.

Fade in to fabulous shot of four women in their petticoats and undies in a bedroom setting, all wearing lovely black shoes to go with their white underwear! One sits at a dressing table, brushing her hair, two lounge on the bed (one smoking a cigarette), and the other seems to be preening in the corner. C/U of one of the women lifting up her slip to examine her own stockings. Fade out. (Quite a sexy scene, perhaps to perk up the audience after all those factory shots!)

Fade into C/U of someone flicking through a sample book of fabrics. Shots of rolls of tweed fabrics on shelving and men cutting lengths from them. Tailors cutting patterns from the cloth and transferring chalk markings. Cutting pattern shapes in bulk on machine. Large factory room full of women workers at tables, sewing and sorting by hand. Women workers at sewing machines. C/U of sewing work. Pattern pieces being pressed on machine. Button holes being sewn on jackets. Looks like a tweed suit is being made. Buckle stitched on waistcoat by machine. Buttons stitched on jacket by machine. High angle shots panning across area where numerous men stand at pressing machines, pressing fabric flat. Continued.
