The aircraft seen here is the prototype Avro 689 Tudor II, Reg. No. G-AGSU.
"chief test pilot Thorn" is Bill Thorn.
(Sadly this very aircraft was to crash on 23 August 1947, killing Roy Chadwick, Bill Thorn and 2 other occupants).

The other two killed were
Squadron Leader David J. Daikie Wilson DSO, DFC who was head of Avro's test section and had served in 617 squadron after the dams raid.
Mr. J. Webster the radio operator.
Chadwick, Thorn and Wilson are buried in a graveyard at the edge of Woodford Airfield.
Two others survived the crash.
