    Documentary with Russian commentary and titles. Some of this material is shared with the film "With Gagarin to the Stars - Version 2" which has an English commentary and other footage.

    01:01:26 - Low angle shot of an aircraft flying across a blue sky. Montage sequence: clouds, skies, rainbow, workers around the world - agriculture, farmers, miners, cutting sugar beet, working in a foundry, Africans, Middle Eastern men, a woman operating a telescope, pedestrians crossing a road, an African statue seen in firelight, a romantic scene of a couple looking out over a river. C/U of a smiling woman and pan down to her baby. C/U of an African woman. C/U of two children playing with toys. Chinese children, African children.

    01:03:04 - An observatory. Large telescopes are moved. Ancient ruins, architecture, sculptures, the Sphinx. Early artists impressions of what spaceships would look like. An amphitheatre or other early arena. An explosion, smoke. Early footage of people crowded onto freight trains. Refugees of some sort? C/U of peasant woman taking off her shoes, sleeping child beside her.

    01:04:19 - Workers building a primitive spaceship. A more elaborate spacecraft is launched. Man in a spacesuit floats in space. It is possible that this sequence uses models and possibly sequences from Russian science fiction films.

    01:05:09 - Russian flag flies above a building. Shot of Moscow seen from a high balcony. Low angle shot of aircraft flying in formation. Shot from inside an aircraft of Yuri Gagarin walking down steps. Reverse shot of him walking down the steps onto a red carpet on the runway. Narrator states that "The truly great thing about him is that he is an ordinary man." Camera follows Gagarin as he approaches a podium. He approaches Kruschev, salutes and states that he has carried out his assignment. He makes a long speech whilst saluting. He is embraced by Kruschev who then has to wipe the tears from his eyes with a handkerchief. The crowd applauds, C/U of a smiling woman. Shots of the crowd. Gagarin embraces his wife or mother.

    01:07:24 - Low angle shot of the world's press photographers and cameramen squeezed onto a platform. Various shots of Kruschev, Gagarin and the cheering crowds. Crowd lined streets seen from a moving vehicle.

    01:07:46 - C/U of Gagarin, wife and Kruschev driving through the streets in an open topped car. Crowds wave small red flags. Man runs alongside the car and gives a bouquet of flowers to Gagarin's wife. High angle shot of the cortege. Travelling shots of the crowds and the cortege.

    01:08:04 - Helicopters fly over head and drop leaflets. Aerial shot of the leaflets falling through the skies. Panning shot from a moving vehicle of a bank of photographers.

    Following material is all also found on Reel 2 of "With Gagarin to the Stars."

    01:08:28 - Man runs alongside the car and gives a bouquet of flowers to Gagarin's wife. M/S of group of smiling boys in uniform. High angle shot of the cortege. Travelling shots of the crowds and the cortege. Kruschev and Gagarin stand on a balcony (probably in Red Square). Good C/Us of cheering Russians. (There may be more shots of crowds and the cortege in this version).
