WOMEN OF FASHION (Reel 2)
Archive footage of the history of women's fashion, starting with two women wearing the early fashions after the first world war. A women in a fabulous black ensemble uses her umbrella as a walking support because the bottom of her dress is so tight. Inside women model evening wear, and fabulous silk pyjamas. Three women in 1920's amazing velvet coats with huge fur collars. Two women show their underwear - specially designed elastic bodices to flatten out the bust. Bathing suits are shown by seven women doing the can-can at the seaside. 1930's bathing belle's model more figure revealing swimsuits. Glamorous models parade in 1930's backless evening dresses. Then comes the 'square' look - very geometric silhouette and square shoulders. Models in long evening wear show their huge feather fans, and long string, pearl necklaces.
1950 models wear fashions for women with the fuller figure designed by Linda Leigh at a garden party. An accordion player and violinist in frilly shirts entertain.
Cut back to the present day (mid 1950's) fashion show (from the beginning of reel 1). Large sized models parade the fashions on the catwalk. The designs are shown in close-up. Various shots of the audience.
