JE Blunderston of St Paul's School wins Peter Pan Cup in river swimming race.

  • Description

Youth Triumphant - Sir James Barrie's Peter Pan Cup won by JE Blunderston of St Paul's School.

Location of events unknown - probably Serpentine River, London.

Line of men; not particularly young; stand on pier ready to dive in - one wears a swimsuit with shoulder straps; coming down halfway to his knees; but the others just have little trunks. They dive in; one at a time. Shot of the swimmers in the river - kind of an unusual contest because they don't all seem to be really trying; or even all swimming at once.

Anyway, here's a shot of the winner (JE Blunderston) - someone in a coat is shaking his hand; while a few other swimmers standing behind him cheer. Then a shot of an old man handing a winner's cup to the guy; who by now has a coat on and a towel round his neck; all the other guys are crowded around.

This was; incidentally; the 'Peter Pan Cup'; sponsored by his creator Sir JM Barrie - maybe the contestants are all schoolmasters because these old fellows sure aren't schoolchildren... what it all means I can't guess.

    Swimming and diving; amateur races.
