The shooting down took place in the early hours (approx 2am) of 3rd September 1916.
The wreck is actually at Cuffley, about 5 minutes from Enfield.
The title calls the craft a zeppelin, but actually its a Schutte-Lanz airship.
The craft was shot down by William Leefe Robinson, who was awarded the Victoria Cross for his actions that night.

This policeman is my grandfather Joseph Norman. He was one of the first policemen on the scene. My mother remembered him coming home smelling of burnt bodies. When my grandfather died we found a piece of the zeppelin at his house.
